Landscape Design Considerations

Designing and creating an almost-perfect landscape can be pretty exciting. With perfect greenery, impressive patios and fascinating gazebos, such landscapes can be beautiful to look at and very functional at the same time.  But landscaping is not always as easy as it sounds. Here are some potential problem points for a landscaper to keep in mind during the design and creation process:

1. Displacing the house within the landscape design

The landscape designer needs to remember that plans designed for the the front yard and back yard need to be proportionate with the house. It would be unfortunate to landscape without considering the size and style of the house in proportion with the size of the yards and the landscaping structures.

2. Underestimating the landscaping costs

It's important to know from the onset that landscaping can be a pretty expensive project. From choosing the materials to hiring l aborers, it could be more costly than one initially imagines. It's a good plan to create a landscaping budget based within financial limits.

3. Forgetting to include landscaping lights

A landscape designer should take lighting into consideration. For the landscape to be thoroughly enjoyed even after sundown, lights can be set up for the patio and along walkways for maximum enjoyment.

4. Forgetting the family's requests

One of the reasons a landscape is put in is to accommodate family members' requests like a playground, an ideal place for outdoor entertaining, etc. The landscape designer must try to create a design that accommodates these desires.

5. Putting everything in the backyard

A backyard is perfect for landscaping but so is the front yard and any side yards. The designer will want to keep these areas in mind when designing the landscaping layout for the entire property.

6. Imitating neighbors' landscapes

Originality is the key. If one likes the neighbor's yard, that's fine, but it's important not to create a clone. An original design is much more fun and valuable.

7. Overdoing the straight lines

The designer must add curves and not get too fixated on straight lines. Curves are always interesting and they emulate a natural style and feel.

8. Including the boundary

The landscape designer must use some things to define the boundary of a garden -- whether it is a fence, a hedge, or a border. Skipping this important element might make the garden seem cluttered and unorganized.

Landscaping can be made fun. To come up with an outstanding garden, knowledge of these common landscape problems is imperative to ensure that outcome is as fabulous as the dream. A well-attended, carefully-planned garden makes for a better living.
